Neonode N2 makes its FCC debut
It's been out in Europe for a good few months already, but the Neonode N2 has now finally landed into the FCC's all-important hands, which would seem to suggest that a US release isn't all that far off. From the looks of the tests reports, however, the touchscreen-based handset doesn't seem to have picked up any of those much-desired 3G capabilities in its trip across the Atlantic, although we suspect it'll still find its share of fans. For those not up to speed on it, the N2 boasts a 2-inch touchscreen that fills up most of the front of the handset, along with a 2 megapixel camera, a miniSD card slot, and quad-band GSM / GPRS capabilities (no WiFi though). Hit up the gallery below for a few more pics courtesy of the FCC, and keep it locked here for any word of a release.

This is the phone that inspired everyone from Apple to Samsung to put out their own touchphone devices.

Actually the previous Neonode model (N1/N1m) is the one you're thinking about: http://tnkgrl.wordpress.com/2007/06/29/neonode-n1m-video-review/

Yeh, it's a darn shame that they were first with a touch-screen and only a few people will ever own one or ever see one. No matter. There's already a touch-screen handset that rules the handset world and that's all that really matters.

What's with all the great phones of today lacking 3G? Slow North Americans...

Last I checked (earlier this year) this phone STILL didnt have GPRS capabilities. It's already 3 years behind. Welcome to your dial tone.

From neonode.com:
"Telephony:* GSM Quadband 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 Mhz bands, GPRS"

the US is chock full of 3G phones. except they're all on CDMA networks.
which is part of the reason i only use CDMA.

I'm skeptical of Neonode considering it's John C Dvorak's phone of choice.

I have one and I can safely it's a very good phone. And the touchscreen is very cool as it uses gestures as well.
