I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. All you need to electroplate something is a conductive surface like th metal case on an iphone.
It's a beautiful scam. Take apart an iphone and put the metal case parts in an electrolyte bath with about 10 bucks worth of gold over night. Increase the price o the plated phone inversely to the IQ of the potential buyer.
