Really, it was just a matter of time until bad taste prevailed. Goldstriker International is now offering Apple's iPhone dipped in 24 carat gold for your (even more) conspicuous consumption. The perfect accessory to your wife ornament and mojito while parked at the bar. The not so free-for-all begins mid-October for an undisclosed price. [Via Pocket-lint]

....The only golden addition is the bezel. You can see that the back is still aluminum.
I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. All you need to electroplate something is a conductive surface like th metal case on an iphone.
It's a beautiful scam. Take apart an iphone and put the metal case parts in an electrolyte bath with about 10 bucks worth of gold over night. Increase the price o the plated phone inversely to the IQ of the potential buyer.

It goes back to aluminum, and is bricked because, damn you, you didn't use it exactly as it came out of the box!!!! Next, Apple will void your warranty if you put any music, video, or pictures on it.

Is it really 'dipped' or do they plate it with gold leaf and then polish it? I've always wondered. The melting point of gold is probably still high enough to burn your iPhone's casing.

It's not for me, but I like it and think there is a market for the hordes of people who prefer gold over silver.
I can see may people with disposable income and an affection with gold would like this option.
PS: My GF says it would match her Luis Vuitton handbag quite nicely. Note: I have no intention of getting this done for her regardless of the price.

Thomas, maybe it's not your taste, but the black and gold actually look pretty good together. if someone has nothing better to do with their money than gold plate everything they have...let them.

Looks to me like an unfinished product. Looking at the picture the gold only surrounds the screen and the back is still the polished nickel. I guess they wanted to be first to market rather then waiting on a complete product.

Interesting enough, the value of these gold plated Iphones has lowered with the gold frames.
Apple fan boys/ girls credit this to the "fact" that Steve Jobs is perfect and gold detracts from his aesthetic vision!
Great...You know what I'd like to see though? A Black Titanium encasement. Or maybe a Damascus Black Titanium encasement. Not only would that be sexy and tasteful, it'd be worth the money spent.
