While reports are slow to come in so far, Blogging Stocks is now reporting that RIM may possibly have yet another
outage on its hands, with at least some BlackBerry users in New York and Washington apparently getting nothing but a "data connection refused" error when they try to check their email. If it turns out to be of any size, this particular outage would be only the latest in a recent spate RIM has suffered -- and not even the first in the
past month. As always, if you're experiencing some problems of your own, feel free to sound off in comments, preferably with details on your location, carrier, etc.

If this is true, it will really ruin my day. I have 60 users with Blackberries, and not being able to do anything to get them running while RIM fiddles around, really stresses the hell out of me! X(
Mike @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:10PM
Update - So far, all of my BB users are working just fine with no issues. Most are on Verizon, a few on T-Mobile, all connected to our in-house BES.

oGMo @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:17PM
AT&T, BES, no problems.
Now if I could figure out how to make this 8820's damned wifi do more than ping and DNS, I'd be happy.
Ben @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:23PM
at&t 8820- BIS and BES- Detroit, Michigan- working fine
I agree about the wifi on the 8820. Can't seem to get the wifi to connect.

Clay Eltzroth @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:25PM
My Blackberry is working fine! Does this have something to do with AT&T switching emails to @AT&T from @cingular?
Jorge Rosas @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:26PM
T-mobile Los Angeles Checks out ok!
Brad Diederichs @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:28PM

All systems go in Birmingham, AL on NEXTEL/IDEN and Sprint/CDMA networks.
jason scott @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:29PM
We have a couple thousand people on berries all over the US and Canada. Nobody is reporting an outage. Mine works fine in Buffalo.
RS @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:30PM
I got tired of hearing how great RIM and Blackberry "push email" was, and bought an iPhone. Half the time the delay on the RIM push takes longer than when my phone just "pulls" it down. That, and I will not compare the two phones... as there is no comparison.
xman @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:30PM
No problems here! T-Mobile, 8100, New York, NY, BIS working fine for me. Just ran a test with all email accounts.
Evan Jones @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:40PM
Working in Austin, TX - Blackberry 880 on AT&T.
Dave @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:45PM
Yay engadget and blogging stocks for jumping the gun and assuming there is a problem... how about some actual sources like x number of users on y service have in formed us, or better yet, x number of users on multiple carriers... perhaps a cell tower is down, perhaps it's a wireless carrier problem, perhaps these end users are idiots, perhaps they aren't idiots, perhaps you are just looking for a huge problem when there isn't one... because, after all, a small outage limited to a small area caused by a small problem with a wireless carrier is no where near as sexy to publish as THE SKY IS FALLING, ALL OF BLACKBERRY IS DEAD, PEOPLE ARE DYING, MARRIAGES ARE FAILING, SOMEONE SHOULD SUE RIM, SOMEONE SHOULD PAY BACK ALL THE MONEY THEY MADE ON THESE CRAPPY PRODUCTS THAT ONLY HAVE A 99.99% UPTIME - HOW DARE THEY FAIL .01% OF THE TIME.
Yes, that's much better "news".
gibson9583 @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:20PM
Are you a RIM stockholder or something?
Dave @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:29PM
Nope, just tired of the constant hearsay that doubles as "news" and "fact" on sites like engadget... not to single them out, it's all over the place... it's irresponsibility at it's best.
gibson9583 @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:50PM
i dont think they are trying to express this as 'fact'.
-The title has a question mark in it.
-in the opening sentence they use the term "may possibly" and "some".
I hardly believe they are trying to pass this as fact. They are simply saying another site has reported this news. Since this is a gadget blog, it rightfully belongs here. no?
themonk @ Oct 21st 2007 9:08AM
I call BS - there was an outage. Was it nationwide – no, but there was an issues in DC, it affected me and I was pissed. We have a BES running on top of the line hardware with redundancy and that was not the issue – it was coming from the mother ship! So don’t try to downgrade the issue, people depend on their blackberries! If there is a service issue I should not be hearing about it from a blog but from RIM!
Jason Chan @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:45PM
Curve on AT&T, BES, no problems all day. Heard my friend in Toronto (8700, Rogers) had an outtage from around 7:30-8:30am.
McFlynnTHM @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:48PM
Everyone in the office is up and running- 8700c's on AT&T in Massachusetts.
Wonderkid @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:50PM
Why the hell does it matter!??? a) Why not simply PHONE someone if it is that urgent or login to regular POP3 or iMAP email. b) Why do people even use Blackberry email? I know the devices make some tasks easy for non-techies, but why not just check or send it every time you need to, rather than be constantly bombarded? It is interesting to note that with America and UK (huge users of Blackberry's) about to go into recession while Blackberry free nations are racing ahead, do they really help? I find my proper laptop a far better use of my time because I can actually do stuff rather than just send or respond to messages all the time. So, do we talk the talk or walk the walk? Disconnect and Do! :-)
coasterjob @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:19PM

tenzintsewang @ Oct 3rd 2007 1:52PM
T-Mobile/Verizon in NM - no problem. We are on BES.
spyd4r @ Oct 3rd 2007 2:52PM
This is pure crap.. are all these users on 1 network carrier?! perhaps they are having an issue, maybe you should do some investigation before putting stories up with no merit.
