Somehow I read pearl and venus as penus and thought, haha i wondered if they noticed that their phone was named after a male sexual organ. And then read it again.

Blah Blah Blah, like we've heard the SCH-i760, XV5800 and XV6800 are due to be out. If they do come out, they will be nerfed so we have to buy Verizon's Janky services. (yes I'm a Verizon customer)

@max
Wow, both of them look quite sweet. I am so glad I did not go for a RAZR 2, these look really sweet! Will probably end up having to play with both at the store...
Yem @ Sep 29th 2007 4:44PM
Yeah screw you Verizon and your cynical anticompetitive lobbying of the FCC, we wont... oooh..... shiny!

Since I'm not in the US of A, I can't help wondering why people don't complain about the ugly network branding on every mobile phone. The ugliest looking is the Samsung with the wheel thing. Sure looks OK without the Verizon logo.
coffeepot64 @ Sep 29th 2007 9:19PM
Its a marketing technique. No, we don't particularly like it but, what are ya gonna do?
Max @ Sep 29th 2007 6:50PM
when u look at the real pictures of the phones. Its the same user interface. When will verizon show us the parada phone, or their iphone killer? These are just the same phones, with bigger screens, touchscreen... its the user interface that wins people over!!!!!!!
David Clark @ Sep 30th 2007 12:25AM
Thank you! I was starting to think I was taking crazy pills for a second with all the positive comments.
As a customer who loves Verizon's network, I have to say I loathe Verizon's crap-as(s) phones! Seriously. If a phone is buy one, get 3 free, it's probably a good sign that NOBODY WANTS IT!
statelypenguin @ Oct 1st 2007 1:25AM
the prada was a sweet phone, but i'd much prefer them to have the lg viewty. possibly one of the worst phone names, but it's amazing. 120fps video, 5.2 mp camera, a ton of on board editing, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAjQUVwdmag
that's a true iphone killer.
Ominx @ Sep 29th 2007 8:26PM
Hey Max, care to share these "real" pictures that show the user interface being the same as previous phones? The one you mention hasn't changed. Cause every single one I have seen show a new interface!!! Only with a bigger screen!!! and it's a touchscreen at that!!! and it won me over!!! Ahhh, exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point.
People really need to get off the anti-VZW bandwagon.
AwlAmericanDawg @ Sep 29th 2007 9:26PM
I'm a Verizon (and t-mobile) customer and these phones look OK, mainly the LG ones loog good. That reminds me are these phones only 1x or are they EV and 1X (the LG ones) because the roaming indicator was on, on the phones and usually when i'm roaming with Verizon I lose my EVDO signal.
Cscamp20 @ Sep 30th 2007 12:47PM
You just answered your own question. That's because you're roaming! Pretty much all new Verizon phones are 1x and EVDO capable...The question is there EVDO coverage in you're area or not? If not, then then you'll only get a 1x signal.
AwlAmericanDawg @ Sep 30th 2007 7:06PM
No i'm in a verizon wireless area with EV and 1x coverage and mobile tv (but my verizon phone isn't the mobile tv one) but what I really mean is are those phones EVDO capable or what?
R.J. @ Sep 30th 2007 12:53AM
If you are interested, the LG model #'s for the right two phones are the lg vx8800 and the vx10000. The vx10000 supports the MediaFLO network and still has a full keypad similar to the enV.
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/LG-VX8800-and-VX10000-for-Verizon-have-touch-displays-article-a_2023.html
The Blackberry Pearl is just the CDMA version of the GSM models that have been around for a while (model# is the 8130).
Don't have any info on the Juke though.
Reid Conti @ Sep 30th 2007 4:12AM
Sorry, Verizon. Your network probably is the best from a coverage standpoint, and your data network is sure faster than EDGE on my new (post-price-drop) iPhone. But I can't tolerate your crappy phones, ugly interfaces, worthless branding, relentless phone crippling, and my calls dropping every time you overload your network.
You know something is up when your customers are ecstatic to PAY MONEY to switch away from your company's services.
LucesDarkness @ Oct 4th 2007 4:07PM
Excuse me? Verizon has better coverage than almost every other carrier in the U. S. (I think T-Mobile has like 4 square miles more than Verizon) and they use CDMA digital coding which means their reception is faster and more secure than any other network, they can handle more calls at a time on a single channel, and they use 2-3 cell towers at a time to "soft hand-off" your signal whenever you're roaming. Unless you're in an area with a lot of topographical interference or a lack of towers, there's no reason for you to drop so many calls. More likely you're talking with someone from another carrier and *they* drop the call.
My LG Chocolate is the best phone I've ever had. Much better than when I used to have AT&T. I know some people don't get along with its interface, but all personal preference.
Reid Conti @ Oct 4th 2007 4:29PM
Verizon does have better coverage. I kind of doubt the T-Mobile claim to it.
It is also true that CMDA allows more calls per fixed amount of bandwidth and soft-handoff. But all digital technologies use soft-handoff, so that's nothing unique to CDMA. What CDMA suffers from is signal pollution in areas with lots of base stations, which leads to signal degradation.
The biggest problem I had with CDMA was, because it allows an essentially unlimited number of calls, your bandwidth for your call will drop lower and lower as more people make calls, unless the carrier strictly limits number of calls at a time. This is why, when Verizon's network gets busy, the call quality gets crappier and crappier until it drops entirely. My Verizon data card for my work laptop drops EVERY DAY at 5pm if I'm using it, because everyone starts using their phones as they get off work. I noticed a similar phenomenon with AT&T 8 or 9 years ago; if I tried to make calls just after getting off work, my odds of getting a fast busy in the area near my office was fairly high. However I think this kind of overloaded network (if a company is going to allow their network to get overloaded) is preferable to dropping calls that are already in progress. The other thing is, if you get fast busys, you'll complain to your network provider. If your call just randomly drops, you won't know why, and won't know what to complain about. It's a less obvious symptom of oversubscription.
By the way, they must have fixed the chocolate. I had a friend with one and he absolutely hated the thing. It kept randomly calling people. Sometimes the touch controls didn't respond at all. Other times, you could hold it in your hand and watch it freak out, as it registered all kinds of button presses that noone was making. My understanding was that this was common with the chocolate at the time (just after it was released). I do love sliders, though. My last phone before my craptacular verizon-menu'd Samsung was a Samsung D500 slider.
I know Verizon likes to claim "it's the network," but all most people need is a phone that works in the places they use it -- home, work, in between, and places they travel. I don't care about a nook in rural Texas. What I do care about, though, is having my calls connect and not drop. I care about good phones with good features that work well, aren't crippled, aren't branded all to hell, and a provider that doesn't try to screw me at every turn.
Jesse @ Sep 30th 2007 11:54AM
Too bad it looks like its running Verizons janky ass software all over them (pics from another site). At least give the good ones windows mobile 6 or SOMETHING! I have a moto q9m and its great, but why ruin a slick phone with that crappy software.
downsouth821 @ Sep 30th 2007 11:55AM
Dude your iphone is the most restricted phone on the market. You never had Verizon, find somehing else worth complaining about. And for dropping calls when the network is overloaded that is a joke. Are did you mean ATT crappy service that always says all circuits are busy when they network gets overloaded. Hey can I ask you question? what happen to all those fewest drop calls commercials that ATT had. They had to take them off, because once again Verizon was rated with the best network LOL, even Alltel and T-Mobile came in before ATT.
Reid Conti @ Oct 4th 2007 4:34PM
Unfortunately, you are wrong. I have a Samsung SGH930 sitting on my dresser right now. I was with Verizon since July, 2006, until 3 weeks ago. I also used a Motorola Q for about 2 weeks this summer, but couldn't stand it so I switched back to the SGH930.
Please read up on CDMA oversubscription. You can be standing next to a tower, and as the network gets busier, the new calls drop your bandwidth until your call drops entirely. No fast busies, it kicks off in-progress calls to avoid them. I prefer the fast busy, though I haven't had one yet in my 3 weeks with AT&T.
ToxicDose @ Sep 30th 2007 1:39PM
www.verizonwireless.com/next has a countdown clock for these set for October 3. I guess they will become official then.
