Is this the future of tech? Buying ANYTHING is dumb, because a cheaper (or free, if we are talking software) version will be out soon?
Moore's law (basically) claimed every 18 months the speed of computers would double. I think we need a new foundation, something to reflect the fact that not only will the hardware get better, but it was get exponentially cheaper, and the information, the 1s and 0s, will be free.
I bought an iPhone. It was 600 bucks, and i loved it. I wasn't pissed when it went to 400, because to me, it was worth 600. I didn't buy the unlock cause i'm fine with AT&T. But more and more, it frightens me to buy anything in the tech world.
well, we can only hope the 1s and 0s will become free... Some companies need to stop locking down hardware with their own, expensive P's of S and open up to the open source community. One of the big reasons I'm going to purchase a Touch is the likely ease and speed with which hackers will make it exponentially more useful.
apple tv came out YEARS after xbox1 + xbmc. do I want to buy it? no, xbmc kicks the crap out of appleTV, and beyond that, it's cheaper.
new isn't always better, it's about making the right descision with what you buy, it's also about not having to be on the bleeding edge.
alot of the time, as I said with xbmc, older tech can be better, not worse, than newer stuff if there's a good community effort, which is EXACTLY what we are seeing with the iphone, and what will continue on I'm sure with ipod touch.
if it breaks your heart you don't have the newest or greatest, you need a hobby. it's just a gadget after all, it won't make feel 'whole' or complete your soul. go have a stroll in the park dude.
I actually live close to Millenium Park in chicago and stroll through it daily, often stopping to check my email on my iPhone.
You, friend, are the epitome of needlessly negative engadget commenters that has taken this site over. I wasn't trying to make some sweeping comment to get people riled up, or even attempting to say something controversial at all. I was making an observation in regards to how 40 years ago the rule was 18 months, and now look at the innovation we see in months, even days. I WAS MAKING A POSITIVE STATEMENT, WITH A JOKE TACKED ON TO THE END. I bought the very device i was joking about, an iPhone, and specifically stated that i wasn't pissed about the price drop...
If anything, my being ok with said price drop puts me in a more positive group than most people commenting around here these days, far and away.
And your willingness to let a comment that had nothing to do with you personally get you riled up enough to say things like "go talk a walk in the park dude" shows exactly what the rest of us, here to discuss gadgets, something we enjoy, are tired of seeing.
I'm not sure i'm the one most in need of some park time. Just saying.

if you're really that stressed out over falling prices, then just wait 2-3 months before buying things from now on.
it's not like the pattern isn't obvious or anything, you yourself just stated it.
the pattern isn't scary, it's just the nature of competition.

In a few months, something newer or better comes out. Than, you won't want to buy it, because the price is about to fall at any time.
Its unending.

I think it's down to every 6 months now. It sure seems that way.
