Apple sold 270,000 iPhones in the first 30 hours
According to Apple's Q3 financial results call, Apple sold 270,000 iPhones during the first 30 hours of sales -- the quarter ended on June 30th. Apple admitted to and apologized for activation problems, which would account for that 146,000 activations figure that AT&T released yesterday. As for sales past June 30th, Apple isn't saying much, but they do plan to be able to announce at least one million in sales by September 30th, and 10 million by the end of 2008. Apple reiterated launch plans for the iPhone in Europe, stating that it'll have the phone in a few "major" countries (Most likely UK, France and Germany) by Q4 2007, and hit the rest of Europe with the phone in 2008. Apple did mention "we'll have details later in the quarter about which carriers we'll be working with" as in, plural, so take that for what you will. During the call, Apple also admitted to an impending cashflow from AT&T, which had been speculated, and is most likely based on contract renewals and new subscribers that the iPhone nabs for AT&T. Apple will start counting the revenue in the September quarter, but didn't say anything else on the subject while dodging questions about Yahoo!, YouTube and Google contracts.[Thanks, Wildthing]

Do you think they'll beat 1 million Zunes?
Bloobie @ Jul 25th 2007 7:13PM
They sold 9.8 million iPods in this last quarter alone, so I doubt they are that concerned with the Zune.
Ireland @ Jul 25th 2007 10:14PM
Not to be a person to repeat myself but, what's a Zune?
Fatima @ Jul 25th 2007 5:47PM
Ferrar or Lamborghini?
Which should I buy?
Or maybe I will just keep the money in Apple for now.
The stock is at $150++ in Afer Hours trading!!
YAY!

Phones sold/shipped June 29th online weren't shipped next-day/same-day delivery.
Ricardo @ Jul 25th 2007 5:51PM
errr, where are the missing 700,000 iphones ?
I bet in a warehouse name "iFlop".....
Fatima @ Jul 25th 2007 5:54PM
Sales picked up a few days AFTER, once people saw their friend's and family's iPhones. So you cant say its a flop from the first 2 days of sales. What a douche.
Fred @ Jul 25th 2007 6:21PM
Um, hello moron. The "missing" iPhones went on Ebay.
GriffTannen @ Jul 25th 2007 6:43PM
"Sales picked up a few days AFTER, once people saw their friend's and family's iPhones."
That is actually not true. Analyst have shown that demand has dropped greatly from the first two days of sales....
Wait, Im actually responding to this as if you actually knew what you were talking about.
hobbes @ Jul 25th 2007 7:06PM
Analysts also claimed that a variety of different number of iPhones had sold, from 400,000 to a million. But obviously, Apple isn't even close to a million. So do they actually know? Nope, they haven't got a clue. So why should their guess be any more accurate about sales dropping?
Ian @ Jul 25th 2007 5:54PM
i dont care what you say about the iphone thats a lot of fucking phones for ANY company. and just think its the first one out there in this market. hmmm i wish i had stock in apple right now
humpty @ Jul 25th 2007 5:56PM
The difference is that there was UNPRECEDENTED hype for this phone. No other phone in the entire history of phones has ever had this much hype before launch.. I was expecting 1 million units sold day 1; esp. since they were boasting they had that much stock.
Fatima @ Jul 25th 2007 5:57PM
@humpty.
Thats a crazy estimate. $1M on first day? Its $600!!!! And it has a 2yr contract with ONLY ONE COMPANY!
Bart Lee @ Jul 25th 2007 6:07PM
Humpty, show me where Apple ever claimed to have a million phones ready for launch.
andrew harrison @ Jul 25th 2007 6:28PM
uhmm Marce,
your calculations are wrong
500 per hour * 2000 stores * 30 hours = 30,000,000 phones.
To get to 1,000,000 in 30 hours, they need to sell 17 per hour per store.
jason @ Jul 25th 2007 7:08PM
@MarcelV
Where did you learn math? 1 million phones, divided by 30 hours gives you 33,333 phones an hour. Divide that by 2000 stores and that gives you 17 units per store. Take 60 minutes in an hour and divide that by the 17 units per store and there would need to be one iPhone sold every 4 minutes during the 30 hours in order to sell 1 million phones.
At least 12 year olds can do basic arithmetic!
MarcelV @ Jul 25th 2007 6:06PM
1 million in 30 hours? Can't be done with 2000 locations in total. That would be 500 an hour per store. Some reality check, please...... Must be 12?
Ricardo @ Jul 25th 2007 6:00PM
here come the ifanboys spinning..spining the RDF....
The matter is...RAZR sold more than this phone each day of a monthr for a period of time...Nokia move certain phones at the same rate or better than this phone. For the amount of hype this thing got...I expected 1 million sold in 3 weeks ...not 3 months..if EVER.
and please don't call it an smartphone since we can't install applications on it.
quee in 3...2...1...0...my post is flooded by ifanboys defending this phone
Fatima @ Jul 25th 2007 6:09PM
shoo! Troll
Fred @ Jul 25th 2007 6:30PM
So, your telling me that established, and dedicated cell phone manufacturers sell as many phones as the new kid who also makes computers, DAPs, and software? Hmm, so what are you really saying here? I think you may be confused as to what is being said here.
Austin @ Jul 25th 2007 6:33PM
Say what you must say to feel better for yourself. hey, i have a slvr and i'm not complaining. I also have 240 extra dollars from the 12 point jump in my AAPL shares.
Ryan @ Jul 25th 2007 6:45PM
Actually, douche....
Motorola sold 130,000 Razr's in 30 days...Apple sold 270,000 iPhones in 30 hours.
Way to know your numbers, a$$clown.
Feelinggood @ Jul 25th 2007 7:25PM
Right on Fred! But then again, don't expect any intelligent or informed contribution from Ricky PC Bitch here, he is mostly talking out of his ass.... as clearly demonstrated by Ryan here: "Motorola sold 130,000 Razr's in 30 days...Apple sold 270,000 iPhones in 30 hours." All he ever does ever is spread FUD, and he can't even do that properly. A moron in its purest form...
FanBoyFanBoy @ Jul 26th 2007 7:53AM
Aren't you a fanboy yourself? Most of the people here that throw that term around in regards to anyone remotely on the side of Apple, are huge fans of anything anti-Apple. You revel in anything negative about Apple, and try to downplay or dismiss anything positive that is in the news. You ignore facts, facts that are proven by multiple sources - or you just label it "RDF". $150 a share, when it was $100 less than that only a year ago - is that RDF? IF you are really concerned with RDF, focus your attention on the Whitehouse, the implications are far more serious. You rush to post in comments about something your not interested in, you intentionally antagonize to get responses, then act as if no one was supposed to respond to your flamatory statements, then label them as a 'fanboy' if they do. Apple deserves all the credit they are getting, they have overcome quite a bit and are an extremely successful & iconic American company.
I think you are in desperate need of human interaction a.k.a. a friend or two.
L. M. Lloyd @ Jul 26th 2007 8:12AM
To Ryan:
You are either making numbers up, or have very bad math skills.
At the height of its popularity, the RAZR was selling 15 million a quarter. That is more than 1 million a week. How you come up with "130,000 Razr's in 30 days," I suppose only Apple PR can figure out.
Before you run around insulting people and throwing around made up numbers, I suggest you learn some basic google skills.
adam t @ Jul 31st 2007 12:51PM
I dont know what youre talking about Lloyd. Moto only sold 750,000 razrs in its first quarter on the market. Now, it did sell quite well later on, hitting 50 million in its first 2 years.
But the Razr a phone that was obscenely subsidized. They were practically giving them away after its initial high price ticket. The iPhone on the other hand is a $500-600 device and it sold 270k in its first 30 hours. I think thats pretty fucking good.
dudeInAmerica @ Jul 25th 2007 6:04PM
I just made enough money off of apple stock to buy an iphone now..
(and a BMW, bought it at $119 whoo hoo!)

Shabbis @ Jul 25th 2007 6:08PM
270K was probably about all Apple had available as all stores were out of stock Saturday evening, they were able to restock quickly during the following week, but those went fast as well. I picked up an iPhone the Thursday after its release for a friend at a local Apple store and got the last 8GBer from that morning's shipment. So I bet the 270K for the first 30 hours was a result of lack of inventory in the channel, not a lack of demand.
Leonard Nimrod @ Jul 26th 2007 12:15AM
I think there were two stores still with stock. Either way, I think it's likely that Apple will hit 2M in Q4.
eh @ Jul 25th 2007 6:13PM
I still havent seen a single person with an iPhone and none of my friends have seen an iPhone yet either. When the black Razr came out I saw loads of people with them in just a couple of weeks. So where are all these iPhone users?
Shabbis @ Jul 25th 2007 6:20PM
Well, I can balance that out as there are at least six people at my work who now have iPhones, four of them had Cingular 8125 WM5 phones before that. Eight of my friends have also purchased iPhones. Funny, all of them purchased 8GBers too. Not sure why Apple even offered a 4GBer.
garbuhj @ Jul 25th 2007 6:28PM
Apparently you don't live in new york. I started seeing lots of them being used by random people on the street within a couple of days of its launch.
GriffTannen @ Jul 25th 2007 6:40PM
So?
Where I live, Ive seen none.
Oh, and I work in downtown Chicago, Ive seen none there either.
AndrewNeo @ Jul 25th 2007 6:44PM
I've seen one iPhone since they've come out and that was at a convention with 3,000 people in a major city.
paul @ Jul 25th 2007 7:23PM
hey genius, they just announced sales figures, we don't need your useless anecdotal evidence. duh.
P @ Jul 25th 2007 8:26PM
Yeah and when the black razr came out, it was $200.
How many razrs did you see when they were $500
Eh @ Jul 26th 2007 12:21AM
Haha, People get ranked low because they havent seen an iPhone. Applefanboys are a unique bunch. If youre wondering how its possible for me to not ever see an iPhone then it might have something to do with my city only selling 105 units on launch day (it was reported by the news, we have no apple store and only a couple Cingular stores carried iPhones so it was easy to keep track of sales), none of the stores sold out. You can imagine my odds when the city has around 370,000 people, it also doesnt help that Cingular is a relatively new carrier here with a vast majority of people on Sprint. So to the Apple fanboys I apologize, my post wasnt meant to damage your pride, I was only stating the facts.
Mike @ Jul 26th 2007 1:27AM
With that logic I can say , "I haven't seen you therefore you do not exist."
TheMan @ Aug 13th 2007 8:26AM
I saw 2 iPhones in ITALY. One at the airport and one in Vatican city. Not popular? Riiiight...
Jerome @ Jul 25th 2007 6:18PM
So this year, just in a few Major Countries, but what is with the rest ? 2008, yeah but what means 2008? Q1 or Q3 ?
DayNovo @ Jul 25th 2007 6:45PM
While the results came in at the higher end of expectations, they do reinforce Apple's reliance upon the Jobs machine.

Just so you guys know. Word went out to various messageboards for Apple fans to hit this blog to spin this news as a postive for Apple.
That is why all of you are now "Lowest Rank".
And before you say Im lying, I was just on one where they were told to hit this particular one.
Fred @ Jul 25th 2007 6:43PM
Which one is that? I know that there are a ton of blogs that are worried about the comments on another tech blog. I know the motorola KRZR blog is trying to get the ROKR blog, and the RIZR blog to gang up on the N95 blog, and they're gonna have a knife fight later.
