We caught up with the one and only Steve Wozniak waiting in line to take an iPhone (or six) home. He even gave a bunch of people in line shirts and signed line badges. Aw, how nice!

Well, its Woz.. It's Woz, the co-founder of Apple, chief architect for the line of products that established the company, waiting paitiently in line with the rest of the Apple customers... for an iPhone...
To a lot of people, this culture of a utopian unity, weather real or only perceived, is what is special about Apple.
But I do like Woz tho. He seems like an honest likeable guy. The complete opposite of that arrogant wanna be cult leader/used car sales-man Jobs. So cool interview.
Of all the things that Steve Jobs is, the one thing he ISN'T is a "wannabe" anything. And he's already a cult leader, and possibly the best salesman in the world.
I think it's just who he is. Without a doubt he had access to product once iPhone RTM'd but, probably chose not to. He is absolutely one of the nicest persons in the industry and, I think is not credited enough for his work at the begining of the PC industry. It's speculation but, I feel that if there had not been an Apple I (his design, Job's dream), there probably would have been another 10 years of incremental Altair type clones before anything else would have came along and galvanized the industry the way the Apple I did.
Woz wasn't just the chief architect that brought us Apple, he invented personal computers as we use them today. The Apple II is the first real computer that normal people could use. Not only did he give us Macs, he gave us personal computers.
Just sayin'.
BTW, I understood every word. And my ears ain't thta good.
Eric: Wozniak IS the chief architect, engineer, and genius that created Apple Computer, the Apple II, and brought the microcomputer revolution to the everyday geek. His creations include the Woz chip that simplified disk drive technology and created the Super Woz Integrated Machine (SWIM) for the original SuperDrives. That's pretty much all Woz has done and now flash forward 20 years now, and he's just a has-been.
It was NOT Wozniak that brought us the Mac. That was Jobs's baby and it's what Jobs used to push Wozniak and the Apple II down and out of Apple. Ask yourself why is Apple not making say an iApples/AppleBooks instead of iMacs/MacBooks? Jobs wanted to get away from the game-playing, geeky, candy-apple of Woz and sell these one-piece consumer electronic machines. You can tell since the Apple II were all about games and some apps like modern PCs, and the Macs were and still all about "productivity". Jobs did the same thing with NeXT which is now OS X.
I lived through this history and you can also read about it in the Wikipedia.
You completely missed my point. I KNOW WOZ had little to do with the Mac. The Apple II made Apple. It was long established, and even brought in more revenue than the Mac for several years after the Mac was introduced. You assertion that the Mac made Apple is flat out wrong. The Apple II made Apple. The Mac finally became the core of Apple, but your statement that Woz was not the chief architect of Apple is nonsense. In fact, he was not "pushed out" of Apple, he is still an employee. Check his website and his recent autobiography, and numerous interviews.
As for you statement that Apple IIs were about games, yeah, well there were games on them. I remember one space trader game someone showed me once on it. Quite fun. But the Apple II was also about business. It introduced the spreadsheet a concept and sold may Apple IIs into businesses all of the country. 1-2-3 came later on the PC and took over the spreadsheet world.
I'm the same age as Jobs. I lived it too. I also remember the 60s.
Man, cut Ryan some slack. I could hear the Q and A pretty well and considering the sound environment and the fact that he was interviewing one of the superstars of personal computing (BTW, I loath Apple the company but respect Woz for the engineering) pretty much off the cuff...I would not expect 60 Minutes.
I miss Woz being at Apple. He is a great guy. And of course he still has a lot of influence at Apple. I don't remember but I think Jobs pushed him aside during his first reign 20 years ago.
I actually met Woz in Atlanta last April. He was a judge at the FIRST Robotics World Championships. My team and I were siting behind him at the awards ceremony and we had a nice conversation about the weeks events. He was a very likable guy and as our conversation was winding down, I asked him for one of his business cards (after reading about them on Engadget) and he gave every member of our team one. Talk about a nice guy.
If you read your link or did some research, you would notice that Wozniak didn't create the Sidekick. Wozniak only joined the board of directors of Danger for his "tech celebrity" status.
Look at Wozniak to see what Jeff Hawkins will be in a few years.
This was at the Westfield Valley Fair mall, which happens to be the closest mall to Apple HQ. In addition to Woz, there were several other Apple corporate employees there, including one who had a proto unit and was flashing it around ;).
I suspect that this store sold over 1000 units today, but they had more than that in stock. This was a blowout day.
Hey guys, how about fixing your servers to return the correct MIME type for mp4s, so Safari doesn't try to render it as text after being told that the file is text/plain ?

Waz was great catch but your audio was terrible and your shot framing was worse. Learn the basics of shooting & recording video before you go out & record - once you learn the basics then learn how to formulate an interview Once you learn the basics then share your work with others
It's disappointing that a man as important to Apple as Steve Wozniak is forced to stand in line for an iPhone. I'm surprised Woz has anything nice to say about jobs. This is just another insult in the long list of insults perpetrated by Jobs to Woz. Jobs even refused to write a forward for Woz's book iWoz - how classless can you get. You should be ashamed Jobs.

That looks like a beast, although the video is too low res to get a good look at it... Anyone know what it was?

They guy's got class. He's a very humble individual who likes to meet people and is appreciative of those who helped get him where he has today.
I've never heard of him making a public appearance without shaking hands and giving autographs - unlike jobs.

The video is useless with that audio track.
If you're going to cart your $1,500 camera around, bring a $20 mike so the material is usable.
