Cingular 8525 spotted (again)
Thar she blows. We're not going to pretend like there's any surprise left here -- it's the 8525 in all its tri-band UMTS / HSDPA glory, it was on Cingular's page, and it looks like they're about ready to go. Yep, all we're waiting for is a price and release date. Yep, just gonna keep on waiting. Cingular?

It looks a lot like the UTStarcom 6700 (minus) the antenna

We were able to place orders for the 8525 this morning with our business account. I was told they should arrive this week.

What can the consumer expect to pay?

What will be the difference between the 8125 and the new 8525?
Richard @ Oct 24th 2006 4:31AM
I hope it doesn't have the same screen alignment issues as the T-Mobile Europe variant.
giryan @ Oct 24th 2006 8:02AM
Screen alignment issues?
What's the problem?
Is it something I should have noticed? :)
brian baigorri @ Oct 24th 2006 7:22AM
Did anyone else notice that the specs sheet lists "Optional 2.0 mega-pixel camera with built-in flash and video capability?" Optional?!? WTF?
CaseyBlackburn @ Oct 24th 2006 7:47AM
brian baigorri, the cingular 8125's camera is optional aswell.
Jeremy Marx @ Oct 24th 2006 9:02AM
There were screen alignment issues with early models, especially the TyTn (the 8525 is a variant of the HTC Hermes. The TyTn is HTC's own branded variant).

Look under Resources, Hermes Problems. I highly doubt the 8525 will have similar problems, and there are fixes if it does.
Wow, I've ben waiting for this phone for something like four months now!
hesh @ Oct 24th 2006 8:53AM
I don't know if I should get this through Cingular or get an unlocked TyTN for like $800 :(
jwoznack @ Oct 24th 2006 9:22AM
Cingular 8525 = HTC TyTn - front camera. Personally I'm going to get the TyTn because I'm hopeful that soon we'll be able to do video calls. :P

Yum yum yum. Another sexy and functional PDA... now if only it had Crossbow.
Egon Pax @ Oct 24th 2006 10:21AM
So wait, what's the difference between the Hermes and the TyTN? Is there any difference? Why is it called "HTC Hermes" and the "HTC TyTN?"
On a somewhat related topic, I spotted a building in the city I live in and it has a "HTC" sign outside with the words "Smart Mobility" under it. Interesting....
Egon Pax @ Oct 24th 2006 10:23AM
Oh, HTC is "self-branding" their own Hermes and it's called the TyTN. Nevermind then.

WHEN WILL THIS PDA COME TO SPRINT!!!!!!
Bierp @ Oct 25th 2006 8:43PM
I've been all over the Cingular site and I can't find the page above. Whats the URL? (Did Cingular remove this page? Search returns nothing.)
Stresstest @ Nov 4th 2006 9:49PM
I was playing with an 8525 3 weeks ago in the office and wanted to see what the device would actually do bandwidth wise on the UMTS network here in Seattle.
986 Kbps on mobile DSL reports. Love the fact that I can pull a megabit over a phone ;) And the fact that the advertised 400 to 700 Kbps is very underrated to what you actually get on Cingular's UMTS network. Should have my personal device this coming Monday
Supposed to Launch this comming Monday (Nov 6th) retail for those that may be interested..

o.k here it is and its not good news cingular will launch a total of 8 new phones before christmas, cingular will take over the pda market with no competiton by december once it launches all these phones, bad news 8525 will not hit STORES till december for christmas specials,IT WILL HIT ONLINE ON THANKGIVING SPECIAL SALE that is just sad, cingular needs to get in touch with its customer base make upcoming phone announcements and anticipated models known thats called customer service which for cingular is going downhill.you are not taking over customer service arena at all which is bad news for you because that one company with ITS THE NETOWRK. is doing good on customer service so look out cingy.
