Sony Ericsson's Z610i says hello

It's just a little bit obscure what's going on in terms of specs and details over at Pocket Israel's joint with the Sony Ericsson's Z610i, but really, what do you need to know? Sony Ericsson's following up their Z520 -- which is a hot little number in and of itself -- but we will, of course, fill in the blanks as soon as we can. It's just nice to know what's coming down the pipeline, right?

It has a 2MP camera, functions as a MP3 player, and has an exspansion slot

It also has a camera lens there above the screen, so its 3G.

Surely the Z610i is a replacement for the Z600i (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=global&lc=en&ver=4001&template=pp1_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10104) rather than the Z520i, which has recently been replaced by the Z530i (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=global&lc=en&ver=4001&template=pp1_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10380)? That would make more sense with the model numbering.

At first glance, that looks like a SANYO phone.

Sorry, this doesn't look like much of an improvement at all. The z520i has a 101x80 exterior color screen. From the pictures at Pocket Israel, this model looks like it's packing only a 96x24 monocrome screen on its outside.

The z520 has one of the biggest exterior screens I've seen for a clamshell. It's one of the reasons I chose it over the RAZR.

When somebody calls, you can set it so that the phone displays their image on the exterior screen, before you flip it open to answer the call. With the 101x80 resolution yumminess, their picture looks great.

So why can't Sony Ericsson come up with a real upgrade to the z520? One that adds features, instead of taking them away?

Nothing special, the 2MP cam and 262K color is almost becoming a norm in the mobile phones market. But i just tend to like clamshell phones :P

I'll say that it's design is not so good as SonyEricsson had before. Check for example Z600 - it looks better..
