i sure wish a 3g GSM version would come out soon....
Droo @ May 22nd 2006 5:23AM
I don't even care if it does 3G, It'd be nice to see one out for GSM period. We won't see a large scale 3G roll-out on GSM until the spectrum auction probably.

"i sure wish a 3g GSM version would come out soon...."
Apparently Palm OS isn't capable of handling a lot of the 3G GSM (aka UMTS) functionality, so don't expect one soon.
Jake @ May 22nd 2006 6:38AM
#3: To be fair, the Palm OS wasn't capable of handling EVDO either. Palm has a pretty good team of hackers; if we were stuck with what PalmSource's OS5 was capable of, the Treos would be rather primitive.

Hey drew (#7), if you're that confused about this, you should probably get a RAZR.

Shuttup, #9.
andrewodom, there's 2 versions of the 700. The 700w runs Windows, the 700p runs Palm. The Windows version has been out for a few months now.

If you look at the VZW PDA phone page, you see that Mobile Web 2.0 is available on the 700p. In the past the cheaper "walled garden" option has not been available on these business-targeted plam based phones. Has VZW finaly provided a cost effective offering for those of us who ocasionally just want a little news and access yahoo-g-hot-mail.

#5 that is for Palm's warehouse. That doesn't mean thats when they shipped it to the cellular company's.

I just got the Windows 700W Palm and im kind of skeptical about it. I hate the fact that you cant really watch any windows media player videos that are web sites when you surf the web on it. It also crashes frequently even after i have updated from palm.com..
its such an efficient phone i just hate the fact that it had to have all the windows bugs.
Does anybody know if there is a windows mobile update out there i might not have that can help me with the bugs????
please help!

Ok if u go to Palm site u can order the 700p for both Verizon and Sprint. It's $399 not $499 and $649 without a plan. Is this a mistake or Verizon trying to make $100 extra bucks? Also I wonder if i can order the Sprint 700p and receive it by next monday.
Eddie @ May 22nd 2006 1:27PM
DO YOU GUYS THINK I SHOULD RETURN MY 700W AND GET A 700P INSTED?

Wow Palm is offering an $150 rebate if u send in ur TREO 650 http://web.palm.com/promos/treo650_trade_in.jhtml?creativeID=LFB|treo650_trade_in#

I know people who ordered the 700p from the Verizon website, or via the phone, and they were told it would ship in a few days. I believe if you order direct from Verizon, you will get it sooner than going through Palm. Remember, when it comes to cell phones, the carriers rule the market.
Also, you do get the phone for $399 if you sign up for one of the plans with unlimited data, which you would probably want anyway. It's called the Advanced Plan Discount, and you get that $100 off instantly.

BEWARE - phone is actually $499, online discount does not apply to the 700p! Also, the vzwshop.com approach adds a new line rather than upgrading your existing phone.
Yesterday I was thrilled to see this article and immediately ordered the 700p through vzwshop.com. The invoice from vzwshop.com said the 2-year contract price would be $499 - $100 online discount. But today, one day later, I received the shipping notice from Verizon and the $100 discount was gone.
I just got off the phone talking to five different customer service reps to work out why my order was actually $100 more than advertised. They said if I upgrade my phone via verizonwireless.com I should be able to do it and get the discount.
However it wasn't showing up for me there, and they could not explain why. It turns out they were looking at the 700w, and they in fact have no discount on the 700p.
I even told them that Sprint is offering it for $100 less, and said I'd be happy to stay a customer if they match the price, but they said they couldn't do that.
Buyer beware. And beware of Verizon's customer support. Of the five people, the experience was like this:
1. Nice but not able to do much. Forwarding to #2.
2. Aggressive and rude, telling me I was wrong. Then at the end realizing my statement discount was not applied, but refusing to apply it.
3. Nice, again just forwarding me to #4.
4. Absolutely unbelievably clueless. Couldn't even find the phone on the page, called it the "Palm Tree". Thankfully forwarded me to #5.
5. Competent and nice, solved the problem by acknowledging that no discount exists for anyone. Embarassed about not being able to match Sprint's price.

An update on the $100 discount fiasco. You can now get the $100 online discount from Verizon.
Here's how I found out. After my previous debacle, I slept off the frustration and shopped around for pricing. Verizon still seemed better in terms of the overall subscription package so I decided that the 700p was worth the price and bought it for $499 via the "upgrade phone" menu on the account UI at verizonwireless.com.
The next day I logged in to check the status, all looked fine. Just out of curiousity I checked the online pricing table again, and to my amazement, the $100 discount was listed! Hugely frustrating. So I had managed to order the phone in the tiny window when Verizon was getting their act together and didn't get the discount.
So I called up the sales office, and fortunately for me they were not yet open (before 8am). Then I called the tech-support number, and was lucky to talk to someone in my same area who was both competent and helpful and nice. I explained the history and she looked at the order and figured I should have qualified for the discount. She said she'd call the sales office when they open and would get back to me. Fifteen minutes later, she called back and had everything fixed - they offered to credit my card $100.
Later on the weekend I spoke to a Verizon employee at a social engagement who said that they were caught by surprise with the 700p. With the 700w they had a couple months advance warning, but the 700p showed up with only a couple days notice and many people didn't know about it. This would explain the profoundly sloppy rollout online.
