Palm Treo 700p approved by FCC
As much as we'd like to blame other parties for the long wait for Palm's Treo 700p (and we will, we will), there's one source for at least some of the wait: the FCC. According to public filings, the smartphone just cleared the government agency, paving the way for its impending rollout. Of course, Palm did file a confidentiality request with the FCC, so we're not entirely clear exactly when this baby got the thumbs up, but the important thing is that it did, which means nothing (short of mobs at Sprint and Verizon's stores) should stand in your way if you're planning on picking one up very soon.

Hm, who needs this antenna these days?
I thought all phones are without antenna...
Steven @ May 19th 2006 12:09PM
Too bad the features suck.
Rob @ May 19th 2006 12:51PM
Features suck? Hmmm, wonder why everyone wants one. Wonder why the tech reviewers who have actually tried one seem to think they are pretty cool... I guess because the features suck.

Only issue I see with this phone is that it runs the very crappy os known as Palm
Build a better windows mobile phone palm and just kill you crappy os that has failed to get with the times

Honestly they should put more focus on the Windows based phones because I need them to have longer battery life and also the qwerty keyboard rocks on it also. On top of that, porn on the go is always fun too. :]

#4, Why are you complaining? This phone is already out with Windows. Ever here of the 700W?
Just becuase you don't like something doesn't mean it's not a good idea, or that other people won't use it. In case you don't know, there is a little os out there call OS X, and a windows phone, and a Mac, don't work out of the box, so for a lot of people using OS X this is a great solution.
The only negative I see is the lack of Wi-Fi, which is obviously left out so you are forced to use the wireless broadband from VZW or Sprint.
If the Treo is such a terrible design, why is it so widely used? There are a ton of other choices, so it's suprising that such a terrible phone is so popular.

Will: This isn't directed to you... your post was well reasoned.
Just for the fun of it let's substitute "XP" for "Treo" and watch Apple fanboys go ballistic.

Screw you mcepat. Palm OS for me is much better, but I don't go around screaming WinMob sucks!
Let people have their own opinions, don't influence them
Marc Mayor @ May 20th 2006 4:58AM
Agree with Steven. I wouldn't invest in Treo right now...

The problem isn't PalmOS inherently being bad, it's that Palm Inc. spun off and then LOST their OS division to Access, so they've been stuck with PalmOS 5.x (Garnet) for ages. Garnet was OK at first, but after all the mods, tweaks, patches and junk to get it to run wireless connectivity of various flavors not to mention their obnoxious memory and file management, well, Garnet is now known as FRANKENgarnet by many.
My 650 was an unreliable, unstable POS. End of story. No more Garnet devices for me.
