Sony Ericsson's W710 Walkman quad-band GSM/EDGE clam for sportos
Sony Ericsson has yet another Walkman phone lined up for Q3 launch with the W710 clam for active types. As such, the W710 features a motion sensor and slew of fitness applications which can be managed from both the internal 176 x 220 TFT and 128 x 128 external STN displays to measure running speed, distance and time, or simply count steps back and forth to the Twinkie source. It ships with a 512MB Memory Stick Micro card (expandable up to 1GB) and features a standard 3.5mm jack, RDS FM radio, 2 megapixel shooter, MusicID service, Bluetooth (A2DP stereo audio not specified), and measure in at about 1-inch thick and 3.6-ounces. And just in case you'll be using it to make calls, it goes quad-band GSM with EDGE support meaning this device is also a US athletic supporter. More snaps after the break.

"it goes quad-band GSM with EDGE support"
That means no.

I Can't seem to find the "standard 3.5mm jack" anywhere on this phone.
Anthony @ May 18th 2006 11:05AM
No standard 3.5mm jack. It will use [and probably come with] something like this http://rex_zw.nease.net/lofty-eb/goodsimage/1122/hpm-70.gif
It uses SE fast port connector. I have them for my k750 and although a 3.5mm jack on the phone would be ideal you can use whatever headphone you want as there is a spot on the mic to switch them.

If there's something Sony Ericsson can do it's make a great keypad (or terrible one: W550/600). This one looks great. Fancy functionality is wonderful, but at the end of the day, I need to make phone calls easily. Their alarm clock function is also the easiest of any phone I've seen- basic but necessary for me (living in a hotel & all).
The camera would be a problem (I think this was mentioned before) in many gymnasiums these days.

I think FedEqs is right. After taking another look at the press release, it'll likely feature a 3.5mm adapter as Anthony suggests. Still, it's not entirely clear from the press release.

Looks sweet to me. But Sprint and Verizon don't do GSM :-(.
ben @ May 18th 2006 2:12PM
Most likely, it will be coming to Cingular. Just like all the other good phones ;)

OhmyGod @ May 19th 2006 5:03AM
That is on of the ugliest phone I have ever seen!
Luis Camino @ May 19th 2006 4:43PM
hey guys, it DOES have a standard 3.5mm jack! just like almost every other sony ericsson stereo headset, the microphone has a 3.5mm to which you then plug the headphones:

and yes it does support a2dp since it's basically the same phone as the z710, and wouldn't make sense to make the "z" a2dp and the "w" not. sony ericsson just always forgets some spec bits in their press releases.

That is a slick phone, I've gotta see if that's available in my area, probably not...
