New Sony Ericsson phone, leaked pics

It wouldn't be a day without some craptastic leaked shots of a new product, now, would it? Here's a new offering from Sony Ericsson that looks a bit like a mashup of the new W810i and the K750i -- it's got the same keypad and coloring as the latter, with the three-in-one button controls and central nav element of the W810i. The pics also show a new UI rumoured to be in development at Sony Ericsson, and other rumoured specs include a 3.2 megapixel camera, EDGE, QVGA screen, and some other new goodies not yet seen in the W810i. Click on over for a few more pics.

I want it to be real, but most likely fake
Shashwat @ Jan 7th 2006 12:38PM
is that a psp in the sys menu???
Dull @ Jan 7th 2006 12:43PM
The photos are blurry enough to be real. It has the Walkman button on it, as well as a PSP on the screen... The 3.2mpc would be great & with edge! But the official unveiling probably won't be until like March...
benny @ Jan 7th 2006 12:47PM
That looks like a PSP on the screen with the icons. You know, the bottom one.
amir @ Jan 7th 2006 12:47PM
Is it me or does the image on the phone's screen associated w/navigating down look like a PSP?
Eliseo @ Jan 7th 2006 1:10PM
This looks like a badder-ass version of the K750i. I love my 750 but now I'm starting to think she ain't all she's cracked up to be.

its probably the icon for the game section.. in the K750 W800 they use a PS2 controller image :p
Jayson @ Jan 7th 2006 1:12PM
The pics look they are off a TV screen or projected image.
Grant @ Jan 7th 2006 1:18PM
did anyone notice the icon on the left has a green itunes "note" on it.
grant @ Jan 7th 2006 1:19PM
by left i meant right
Oliver @ Jan 7th 2006 1:26PM
If it's real, this could be the phone that replaces my K700i. Then again, it also depends on how nice the Nokia E60 is.
Eddie @ Jan 7th 2006 1:38PM
Its called the W850i I think, There's info at www.mobile-review.com its in russian but there are good pics!
Jordan @ Jan 7th 2006 1:45PM
Maybe that is just an all black Sony Ericsson w810i. Where did these pics originate from?
Donald @ Jan 7th 2006 1:48PM
So they say it'll have EDGE - will it be quadband as well?
Come on Ericsson, throw me a frickin' bone here.
dr @ Jan 7th 2006 2:33PM

bob @ Jan 7th 2006 3:20PM
this is the new walkman phone comming out to gsm carriers sometime this year. All the specs are right except for the camera its a 2mp. Its supposed to be the U.S. equvilent to the w800/k750i. The photos that are leaked are crappy but the phone really looks like that check out www.cnet.com(check the cell phone part)
or www.phonescoop.com for more info.
Yem @ Jan 7th 2006 3:22PM
Bah to EDGE. I want UMTS!
Scott @ Jan 7th 2006 4:01PM
#15, this isn't the w810i, it's an entirely different phone that hasn't been announced yet with a new UI, bigger screen and 3.2mp camera.
Alex @ Jan 7th 2006 4:11PM
What would the PSP icon do if it really is that?
qp burger @ Jan 7th 2006 4:18PM
This is clearly a fake one! Why do I think so? Firstly, if they have access to the real thing why don't they show a picture of the cameraside? Secondly, Why do they have the walkman logo on the phone when the phone its the k750 successor? Furthermore, why do fake pictures tend to be blurry?
However, we will se a 3.2 Megapixel phone announced from SE very soon.
Memzee @ Jan 7th 2006 4:20PM
For the record, this is not the W810i, but another phone, codenamed Wilma. W810i was codenamed Helen, while K750i was codenamed Clara.
And I'd appreciate it if you guys at Engadget linked back to the source of the photos and news.

this is real.. check it out at http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/en/04/01/2006/sony-ericsson-unveils-the-w810i/
darcus @ Jan 7th 2006 7:29PM
The user interface looks to be the same as that of the P990i. So... it could be sony's first symbian uiq 3.1 candybar phone without touchscreen. This has been rumoured in the past.
IF it is - looks like the ideal phone to go head to head with some HTC variants like the C600 in the UK.

this ain't the W810 for those who think it's the same thing, the specs say 3.2 mpx camera. And look at it, it doesn't have the walkman logo
nl @ Jan 8th 2006 2:12AM
"the specs say 3.2 mpx camera"
The specs we don't know yet, this is Wilma, k750 successor, and it will have 2MP camera, new UI (similar to nokia series 40 v3), qvga screen, and we will see it in October 2006. And only then (Q4 2006) SE will announce 3MP phone.
So, again, IT HAS 2MP CAMERA. WHO SAID ABOUT 3 MP???

The phone is pretty good, but is a fail as an mp3phone. You ask my why ? The Answer is pretty damn simple, most of us already have good phones and mp3 players (Ipod, Sony, Philips) and their storage capacity is far more then 512MB. So if you have a phone like RAZR v3 / 8800 / K750 etc. or a communicator like Treo or 9x00 nokias or Windows Mobile based once, the platform that is beign used in W810 is no interest to ya. You can still say - Ill buy a MemoryStick card and have those 2GB, BUT it is EXTRA money and its ONLY 2GB (I for example have 20 in my player). Besides, in the upcoming month Nokia will release N91 with 4GB (not 20, but no 512, eh?) and it will run on S60, which is far more better then the OS used in W810, and can be close to communicators in terms of functionality. So can you feel the difference ? But, if you dont know where to spend those $400, c'mon try the new SonyEricsson
P.S.
For those of you who think that N91 will never come, buy a ticket to Moscow and visit Nokia's flagship center, it lies there behind the glass.
BlackBerry @ Jan 8th 2006 11:02AM
Wow, this is very exciting, up to now it's been impossible to set Google as your home page or as a favorite on a web enabled cell phone.
ares @ Jan 8th 2006 11:23AM
Doom, forget to mention, for instance, k750 is right now much cheaper than n91, have better sound than any nokia, better battery life, its smaller, lighter, and with the ms pro duos getting cheaper, SE simply rules the music phone business
anonymous @ Jan 11th 2006 6:12AM
It's called K790i ...
Kramerican @ Jan 12th 2006 3:05PM
Interesting. I saw this phone a few months ago in an authorized cingular/sprint/tmobile store and they told me it was the k750. So when I went home to check the Ericsson site they didn't even show it there. I wonder how the store was selling it so long in advance.
So I can't wait to get that phone, hopefully Cingular will have it. It looks really cool and has the style of the T637 which I think was the best of the small phones they had so far.
