The Nokia 6233 and 6234
The other two new 3G phones from Nokia today are the 6233 (pictured above) and the 6234 (pictured below). Both are two megapixel cameraphones with tri-band 900/1800/1900MHz GSM/EDGE and 2100MHz UMTS. Each has a QVGA, 240 x 320 pixel LCD display, a microSD memory card slot, support for playback of MP3, AAC, M4A, and AAC+ audio files, integrated FM tuner, and Bluetooth. Both should be available early next year.

If it ain't quad band then it sucks... But never mind that, these designs are boring like a car from GM.

I think the bottom phone looks rubish, it looks like an british "3" phone! I think, untill now, 3G phones have looked thinke they need a better style!
The top phone is better tho!
What do you think?

Hmm? No second camera for Video calling capabilities?
I guess the mobile video telephony feature has not really caught on all that well in UMTS markets....

Until Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson put 3.5mm headset jacks (or the slightly less useful, standard 2.5mm) on their phones with music playback capability, they'll remain second rate devices.

@3 This isn't the first 3G phone from Nokia without the second camera. Being a business phone it's not really needed either, 3G is mainly for the higher speed data transfer.
Anyway, I'm a happy camper because this phone will replace the horrible horrible HORRIBLE 6230i as the standard phone at work so it means will finally get to put the trusty old 6100 to rest.

I need to put the champagne back on ice: "Available: Planned in the second quarter of 2006". I can agree it looks a bit dull but "high-quality stainless steel finish" and "Active TFT color display is noticeably brighter" sounds pretty good to me.
bobbydigial @ Dec 19th 2005 12:21AM
but can they play H.264's? thats what matters to me anyway... cause the h.263 looks like crap on the 6230
Eric Bostrom @ Dec 19th 2005 12:21AM
@#5/Frode I use my 6230 (non i) daily and like it quite a bit. I missed out on getting a 6230i, as I dont believe they were released in the US, but on paper, it sounded even better than the 6230.
What are your gripes with it that the 6233/34 will fix?
Foof @ Dec 19th 2005 12:21AM
Branded by Nokia, made by HTC? Looks kinda like it.
mrsmith @ Dec 19th 2005 12:21AM
UMTS-2100? Great! That just means us yanks won't be able to actually use this phone. Time to move to Europe
Ihab @ Dec 19th 2005 12:21AM
hmm... if they both are THE SAME. why make 2 ???????????????????????????
Frode @ Dec 19th 2005 12:21AM
Eric, my problems with the 6230(i) is the poor software that at least the early versions had, the poor keypad, especially on the 6230 where I find it very difficult to operate the joystick button properly. That and the outdated design and something I can't quite put my finger on. I've been using Nokias for the last eight years and I never liked the 6230.
The 6233 is a lot better looking in my eyes. I didn't really expect it to be 3G but the added speed is a huge plus for me, using the phone for data transfer a lot.
Tiago Gaspar @ Dec 19th 2005 12:21AM
@11
The 6234 is exclusive to Vodafone... "In addition to the operator exclusive industrial design, the Nokia 6234 offers an array of Vodafone-specific software features."
