Pantech & Curitel introduces latest Japanese handset
The Japanese mobile phone scene has understandably been dominated by domestic makers for quite some time; Toshiba, Sharp, NEC, Sony Ericsson, Hitachi, Panasonic, and other names probably ring a bell or two. But that could be changing soon enough. Pantech has announced the "A1405PT" handset for AU, and it's the first foreign-made handset for KDDI since releasing a few Motorola ones back in 2000. The specifications are a tad basic versus what you'd expect of a modern Japanese handset, but we certainly won't put it past the Koreans to bust into the Japanese market with full force; Japan may have Korea beat on the content and service offerings, but you can't argue against all the technical developments we've seen come out of Korea in recent years.

Why can't Pantech (Known here as Audiovox/UTStarcom)make phones that are that stylish for release in America??
I think most of the Pantech&Curitel phones that have come out here are really ugly...
This phone may not be high end by Japanese standards but it would be a full featured phone in North America
The blue one is really nice looking!!

Well, why can't anyone?
Japanese phones are big compared to ours these days but they are almost universally beautiful compared to anything we get. I think the manufacturers here decided a while back what our taste was and they've rarely strayed from that. Problem is, they decided this in like 1993. I mean except for the color (and a couple mm of thickness), there is really not much difference between the look of the Moto Razr and the Moto STARTAC. There's not much difference between the look of the first flip phone Samsung ever released here and their current lineup.
Most flip phones look basically the same here - they're either that rounded, bulbous design or they're the techy, straight-edge thing but with little bits protruding here and there. And they're almost all either silver or black. Neither design looks very elegant, to me, and certainly not compared to almost any Japanese phone, most of which have a sort of zen simplicity to their look, even though they're packed with features.
It's Japanese, not Japanes :P
Fixed; sorry about that.
I love Japan and all in it including its gatgets! :-) I think they have the best tecnology in the world. They also have the best Anime and videogames.
